2016-2017 Examination for Acceleration Dates Set
   GISD is offering opportunities this summer for
   secondary students to earn credit in academic subjects.  
   The student must score a minimum of 80%.  The following
   CBEs cannot be used to replace an end-of-course exam
   (STAAR EOC) for for acceleration, only credit recovery:  
   Algebra I A&B, Biology A&B, English I or II A&B, and
   US History A&B.  Testing dates have been set:  
   12/3 & 10, 1/5 & 6, 6/28 & 29, and 7/5 & 6.  
   Any GISD student currently enrolled in grades
    K-12 is eligible to participate in testing without charge
   at the time of the regularly-scheduled administration.

FAFSA Saturdays
This year families and students may begin completing the FAFSA as of 
   10/1/16.  Applicants will need their 2015 tax information.  
   East View is hosting a free event to aid families in completing and
   submitting the FAFSA.

   A financial aid representative from ACC will be available to provide
   updated information about the changes to the FAFSA application
   as well as assist families in completing and submitting the
   application.  Another FAFSA Saturday event is scheduled for
   10/22/16, 9a-1p at GHS.  Students and families of GISD are welcome

Rachel's Challenge Presentations
Georgetown ISD Department of Guidance and Wellness is thrilled to host
the Rachel’s Challenge program at all of our secondary schools at
the end of September. The dates of the presentations are as follows:

Rachel’s Challenge exists to equip and inspire individuals to replace acts of violence, bullying, and negativity with acts of respect, kindness, and compassion. Rachel’s Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott who was the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in 1999. Through her example, Rachel’s Challenge is making a positive impact in the lives of millions of people every year. Superintendents, principals, teachers, parents, and students bring Rachel’s Challenge into their schools because of escalating problems such as: bullying, student isolation, teen suicide, discrimination, school violence, and increased disciplinary actions. Through powerful presentations, trainings, community events, and professional development, Rachel’s Challenge provides the sustainable solution. Rachel’s inspiring story provides a simple, yet powerful example of how small acts of kindness and acceptance motivate us to consider our relationships with the people we come in contact with every day. Rachel’s Challenge renews our hope that our life has meaning and purpose.
