Volunteers & Mentors

  • Thank you for your interest in volunteering or mentoring for Georgetown ISD!
    Student safety is our highest priority.  All volunteers and mentors are required to complete and pass a background check through our Skyward FastTrack system.  The system opens on August 1st of each school year.

    Instructions for Mentors


    If you are a current GISD district employee (Substitutes are not classified as employees) and were fingerprinted as part of the hiring process, you do NOT need to complete the online volunteer application in order to volunteer at a GISD campus.  Human Resources has identified staff who meet this requirement and have cleared your name for volunteer check-in  at campuses through the Raptor system. Employees:  If you have been fingerprinted but are not cleared in the Raptor system contact Human Resources so we can see about adding you to the system.  
    GISD district employees who wish to mentor students need
    to complete an online application for mentoring.  
  • Please note that if you have ever used the FastTrack system before, either as a volunteer, mentor or a job applicant with the district, you will have an existing profile in the system and will need to log in using the information you used previously. If you have forgotten your log-in information, you must use the link to request a new password provided on the log-in screen.


    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. How long does it take to process a background check?
    Depending on the time of year and the volume of applicants, it can take up to 10 business days to complete and process the background check.  You will receive an email notification from the FastTrack system when your background check has been approved, denied, or if you need to provide additional information.
    2. Why does GISD require a background check for volunteers and mentors?
    GISD is required by state law to obtain criminal history record information on individuals who intend to serve as volunteers or mentors for the district (Texas Education Code 22.083). Your personal information as well as your criminal history record results are strictly confidential.
    3. Why is GISD using a system for background checks?
    The new FastTrack system provides the ability for applicants to complete a profile once and re-apply annually more easily.  After your profile is created your subsequent background checks can be submitted more quickly.  In addition, the new system allows you to receive automatic email notifications of your status as a volunteer.  When your background check is processed, if you have been approved, denied, or more information is needed to process your application, you will receive an email notification.
    The Human Resources Department processes the background check information and can answer questions you may have about the process or the status of your background check. The Community Engagement office can assist you with questions or concerns about becoming a mentor in GISD.
