Health & Safety Services
GISD Health & Safety Services focuses on the health and safety of the entire
school population. All campuses (with the exception of the Georgetown
Alternative Program) are served by a full-time registered nurse on campus.
School nurses emphasize prevention
and health promotion services, as well as early detection and
intervention, in order to decrease the incidence and impact of
physical or emotional illness. School nurses provide such
services as appraisal of vision and hearing, screening for scoliosis,
monitoring immunizations, and provide medication distribution
and many other health care procedures. In addition, school
nurses can administer first aid and emergency care while assessing
the need for an EMS phone call.
School nurses take an active role in
the educational decision-making processes at the campus level
for all students who have medical or physical needs. Working
with other school personnel, families, and the community, GISD
school nurses assist students in achieving their highest health
and educational potential.
