Red Ribbon Week Celebrated at GISD Schools

Red Ribbon Week was celebrated throughout Georgetown ISD. Many schools created “theme” days to create campus spirit. Some of the theme days were camouflage day, crazy sock day, dress like a nerd day college, and more. Some schools had special visitors and assemblies which encouraged students to remain drug free. Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, students pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enriqué “Kiki” Camarena. Camarena’s tragic death in 1985, opened the eyes of many Americans to the dangers of drugs and the international scope of the drug trade.
