Two New Members Join GISD Communications Team

The GISD Communications team is pleased to announce two new additions to the team. Melinda Brasher will serve as the Director of Communications and Jennifer Bailey will serve as our new Community Engagement Specialist.

Director of Communications

Melinda Brasher

Melinda Brasher will join Georgetown ISD as our new Director of Communications. Melinda brings a wealth of experience in media management and public relations. Prior to joining the Georgetown ISD team, Melinda served as the general manager for the Georgetown edition of the Community Impact Newspaper. Melinda was responsible for all aspects of production for the Georgetown edition, managing the editorial, sales and design teams. In her role, Melinda worked with local business leaders as well as leaders in city, county and education sectors to deliver hyperlocal information that is relevant to readers.

Melinda also worked as associate vice president for communications at Concordia University Texas, responsible for the day-to-day communication operations for the University including public relations, print publications, brand management, web and social media. During her tenure, Brasher worked to increase the University’s brand recognition in the community and added social media to the school’s official communication channels, establishing them as immediate and reliable sources for Concordia news.

Melinda served as a teacher in Texas public schools, teaching journalism and advising publications. 

A graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, Melinda earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism and English.  She also holds a lifetime teaching certificate in Texas for secondary Journalism and English. 

 

Community Engagement Specialist

Jennifer Bailey

Jennifer Bailey joins the district as our new Community Engagement Specialist. In her new role, she will focus on district relationships with the community, partners, mentors and sponsors. With this renewed focus on community engagement, we hope to form community relationships that can better help our district inspire and empower students to lead, grow, and serve.

Jennifer has more than a decade of communications experience serving as Leander ISD Senior Communications Specialist. She assumed the day-to-day management of the Leander ISD communications team, coordinated media coverage, oversaw multiple public relations efforts, assisted the district and campuses with crisis management, and much more. Most recently, she served as the Interim Chief Communications Officer for Leander ISD and acted as the district spokesperson, giving media interviews, conducting staff evaluations, serving on the superintendent’s cabinet, attending Board meetings, and managing district projects.

In her new role, she will focus on district relationships with the community, partners, mentors and sponsors. With this renewed focus on community engagement, we hope to form community relationships that can better help our district inspire and empower students to lead, grow, and serve.

A graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station, Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication.
