GISD Board Names Two Elementary Principals

The Georgetown Independent School District Board of Trustees named two new elementary school principals during a special meeting today: Dr. Laura Sloan will serve as principal at Village Elementary School and Jennifer Guidry will serve as principal at McCoy Elementary School.

Guidry has served as assistant principal at Forbes Middle School since 2016 where she oversees fine arts and social studies instruction, special education, guidance and wellness as well as emergency procedures and safety-drill practice. Prior to that, she served as a special education coordinator at Forbes and taught special education at the elementary and middle school levels. Guidry has a combined 13 years experience in education.

“Jennifer is a graduate of GHS and a product of GISD,” Dr. Fred Brent, superintendent said. “It’s not often that a principal is named in their hometown district.”

Guidry holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wayland Baptist University and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University Texas. Guidry lives in Georgetown with her husband Wesley, an engineer, and their two children Liam and Demi.

Dr. Sloan currently serves as Assistant Principal at Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Leander ISD. Prior to that, she served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, director and assistant superintendent of educational programs at schools in Oregon and California. Overall, Sloan has 16 years of experience in education.

“Sloan brings incredible leadership experience to Georgetown,” Dr. Fred Brent, superintendent said. “Her depth of experience in multiple areas of school leadership is impressive.”

Sloan holds both a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from California State University, a master’s in Teaching and a bachelor’s in Geography from Southern Oregon University. She resides in Leander with her husband Spencer, a teacher and coach in Leander ISD, and their daughter Brooklyn.

Each will direct and manage campus operations and lead instructional programs to ensure high standards of instruction and student achievement at their respective schools.  They assume their new positions in July.
